Capturing culture in motion through personnel video project for HomeHero

The challenge 

HomeHero is a smart home business-to-business-to-customer platform that uses technology to help streamline household admin. It has also proudly nurtured an internal culture where colleagues trust, respect and support each other. In 2020, they sought an agency to capture this essence by producing a culture video marketing project, steering clear of the dull and conventional.

Going up against five other agencies, Beacon won the account. When asked about her thinking behind their selection process, HomeHero’s then-Head of Communications Nana Wereko-Brobby was clear on why she picked Beacon to fulfil this brief.

“We wanted an agency that is both creatively talented and affordable, most importantly, avoiding the trap of producing a stiff, grey and unoriginal film,” she says. “Beacon gave us a detailed proposal with three concepts for the film (every other agency just sent a generic portfolio). They were able to offer video marketing options to suit our budget and also proposed a long-term solution to help the content stretch further. And they aligned with our values.”

The solution

Those three initial concepts we delivered focused on creating a portrait series, leading with narration and with quickfire questions. After further consultation, we cherry-picked elements from all three to conceptualise the final marketing video format, which we would script, record and edit. 

Filmed seamlessly in one day, our London-based shoot was run by our dedicated videographer, supported by artistic direction and interviewing from within Beacon, and featured many HomeHero employees. 

With the camera acting as the eyes and ears of a new starter, we were able to create a strong, effective narrative that guided the viewer through the HomeHero culture. Complete with unscripted conversations and candid moments with their team, we successfully, powerfully, and beautifully captured the heartbeat of HomeHero’s culture.
