Happy 2nd Birthday Beacon!

It’s been a whirlwind two years since Beacon was born. Sometimes it’s weird to think that it’s only been two years, other times I can’t believe we’ve been up and running that long. So, on the eve of our second birthday, our Content Manager Ruthie tasked me with summing up our journey so far; and thinking about where we want to go. In this climate? Much more difficult than I’d imagined!
Finding our Passion, and a Name
Our official birthday is the 14th of November 2018 but as with everything of this nature, we’d been thinking about creating Beacon for a while. Driven by a passion for new technologies, we saw the potential for Smart Home to have a real impact on the things we really care about. Not only can a smart home make improvements to everyone’s day to day lives, but we saw how innovation could help take action against climate change, help the vulnerable in our communities, and generally make our homes and our lives healthier.
We also knew that our purpose was to do great work. We wanted to be a helping hand; that light in the darkness for stressed-out, scaling businesses. That’s how we found our name: Beacon.
We wanted to build an agency that was agile; able to cope with the rapid changes inherent with a lot of growing businesses in our industry. Our team would be mostly home-based, with a hub office designed to be our innovation centre, perfect for hosting workshopping days and all-hands meetings. At the time, this was a relatively out-there idea. Never did I think we’d have to test our model so quickly!
2 Years of Bringing Stories to Life
Armed with passion, commitment, flair, and a lot of hard work, we have grown into a thriving agency that offers our clients a deep understanding of their industry and the ability to truly operate as the extension of their team.
Over the last two years, we’ve undertaken a lot of exciting projects with our clients: from branding to new websites, online events conducted for global audiences, live product launches, and even paid media management. We offered advice and created strategies that help our clients to be agile in such a changeable environment. We’ve conducted our own market research to test our own theories and assumptions on consumers’ thoughts in the industry and this research and data-driven approach enables us to do the best work for our clients.
We’ve learned so much over the past two years, and our deep-seated need to explore and learn more is what will carry us through the next two years and further into the future. As the industry starts to grow and move from connected devices to intelligent devices, we can really start to realise the promise of what Smart Homes can be, and we promise to keep ourselves on the front line: taking the next leap forward and seeing what’s next.
A Few Thanks
While Beacon has a strong purpose, it wouldn’t have got to where it is today without the support and help of a lot of people. I want to say thank you to our amazing team who have worked tirelessly to always deliver the best work for our clients and who always do it with such fun and positivity – even in the midst of an ongoing global pandemic. I’m really proud of you all. I also want to thank everyone who has supported us, taking part in our podcast, or sharing our content. We’ve really appreciated the friends we had around us.
Finally, I want to thank our amazing clients who have worked with us over the last couple of years, we’ve had so much fun working with you and look forward to more years of you all being our favourite passion projects.
The last two years have gone so quickly but have been filled with so many amazing experiences and meeting so many inspiring people. As a team, we can’t wait to see how Beacon grows and changes in the next few years and we’re excited to be on that journey.
